Kaka Point Studio is a newly built modern studio apartment located on the beachfront at Kaka Point, which I recently photographed for the purpose of online promotion.
It was an absolute pleasure to photograph because the owners, Nicky and Sabin, had decorated the place superbly, creating a wonderful blend of ocean meets rustic charm. The photographs would be used on their new website, Airbnb and Booking.com.
The studio apartment cleverly squeezes in everything the weary traveller might need, such as a full kitchen, bathroom, laundry, wifi, wide screen TV with Netflix, and air-conditioning, without cramping the space at all.
Whenever I am photographing residential properties for real estate or private home owners, I employ a few tricks to show the place in the best light, such as, using wide-angle lenses so the viewer gets a real sense of the space; turning on the lights to promote warmth and create an airy inviting glow. Small details like, removing the waste baskets from view oozes cleanliness. If it's an overcast day I'll Photoshop a blue sky in.
We were lucky to land a glorious sunny day for this shoot which meant I could capture beautiful images of the beach as well as the exterior without needing to alter the images Photoshop in post-production.
If you are a party of two or flying solo and planning a trip to The Catlins or Nugget Point Lighthouse, this is the ideal place to stay. Located across the road from the beach and literally three doors down from the pub/cafe, win-win!
